Sun Protection with Neutrogena

NG1

It's well and truly summer here in Australia, and what better way to kick off the warm season than with a post dedicated to sun protection. As a kid, I actually hated sunscreen. I kind of liked zinc but only when it was colourful and only when my mum got the pink one. (Which was hardly ever!) I grew up in central Queensland; for those of you non-Aussies, that's where the sun is pretty darn nasty. It's dry, it's hot, and it's sunny. Unfortunately some of my family suffer from skin cancer due to lack of protection.

Now that I'm a older and wiser (well, sort of) I've realised how important sun protection really is. Seeing my Nan experience some pretty nasty skin cancer was scary when I was a kid, but it's even scarier now that I'm smart enough to realise it's a very real danger and it could happen to any of us.

One of my all time favourite skincare brands, Neutrogena, have a decent range of sun protection products, so I thought I'd share a few of my favourites. These products have definitely made sun protection a little less frustrating from when I was a kid, so hopefully they help you out too.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Clear Face Sunscreen*

Sunscreen on your face is the worst, am I right ladies? There's no way I'm putting that greasy white goop on my face before putting my makeup on. Neutrogena thought of that, and they've answered my prayers. This sunscreen is not only super sheer, it's really light weight and it's oil free, so you don't get any icky greasiness when applying. It's also specifically made for breakout prone skin, so no more breakouts thanks to all the oily sunscreen! This is one of my favourites, and would recommend investing in this one to at least protect your face!

NG3

Neutrogena Ultimate Sport Sunscreen Lotion

This is the durable stuff. Nothing worse than applying sunscreen, going for a jog, (or in my case, slow walk) sweating up a storm and realise you've practically just wiped off all your sunscreen. Or if you're just super sweaty in the summer time - hey it happens! This stuff is amazing, I use this whenever I take my dogs for a walk, or when I do any kind of physical activity during summer. (Like, you know, getting the train in peak hour.)

Neutrogena Beach Defence Water + Sun Barrier Lotion & Spray*

Ahhhh I love you Beach Defence! This is my actual favourite from Neutrogena. It's light, it smells amazing, and it lasts for ages. It's also SPF 50+ which is a big plus. This one is four whole hours water resistant, which makes it perfect for the beach or for swimming. The winning thing about this one is, is that it comes in a spray. Best idea ever. Whoever thought to put sunscreen as a spray just made my life easier. There's nothing easier (or funner) than spraying this stuff all over you before going out. Thanks Neutrogena!

Sunscreen is one of the most important things you can put onto your skin, so I truly hope that everyone is doing it! If you don't have a favourite sunscreen, or you don't do this at all, I would definitely recommend trying out any of the above. If you're anything like child me and you hate applying sunscreen, I promise you these will change your mind!

Do you apply sunscreen every day before heading out? If so, what sunscreen do you use? If not, why not? Let me know your thoughts!

  3. I admit I don't always put sunscreen on unless I'm going for a walk during the day or I know I'll be out in the sun a lot, which is VERY bad since I'm quite fair. I try & avoid the sun as much as possible though.

When I wear it, I usually wear Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Dry Touch SPF50+ on both my face and body, but atm I'm using Eco Tan's Natural Coconut Sunscreen on my face just for something different (and because the Neutrogena one can make my face go red sometimes). The Eco Tan one has a tint in it, which is the only sucky thing since it can stain your clothing, although they're coming out with a non-tinted one soon thankfully. I haven't fully made up my mind about it yet - I've only had it for almost a week - it has its pros & cons.

  5. i live in quite a sunny area, and i used this ultra sheer sun block and it was quite good. it was a year ago and it felt kinda sticky, maybe they have improved their products

  6. I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Beach Defence too! The tropical scent is so different and refreshing from coconut and it blends like a dream. I have this Nivea sunscreen that takes 50 years to blend properly and leaves this white cast. NASTY
