So... What's The Deal With Instagram?

So... What's The Deal With Instagram? - Sweetaholic Beauty

If you're an avid user of Instagram, then you'll know that lately, there have been a few hiccups with the app. And when I say hiccups I mean major bloody catastrophes.

Recently, I was shadowbanned. If you don't know what shadowbanning is, I suggest you Google it. There are a huge number of articles written about what it is, what causes it and how to try to avoid it. To put it simply - shadowbanning means my photographs don't show up under the hashtags I use for people who don't follow me. Meaning there is really no way for new followers to find me.

Shadowbanning sucks. It means that smaller accounts like mine cannot grow or reach maximum exposure. For something like this to be essentially out of your control, it's a very frustrating experience.

So what the hell can we do about it? Honestly, not much. I have since changed my Instagram account from a business profile (which was essential to find out my statistics) back to a personal profile; I have changed my hashtags but continue to be blocked on new hashtags that I use; I have tried no hashtags at all and I have tried everything I can think of. But this is not a post to complain about how my Instagram tactics are not working. This post is about sharing knowledge, sharing this issue and making everyone aware that Instagram is sadly treating their most important users - bloggers and small businesses - like crap.

My main issue with this shadowbanning situation is that Instagram has acknowledged the issue, but has done nothing to resolve it. I have made several complaints, but they have gone completely ignored. This is what we, as bloggers, need to fight against.

Everywhere you look, the world is talking about Instagram. How can an app that has made itself so important to daily life for some people treat their most valuable users like this?

At the end of the day, I'm pretty upset with Instagram right now. Not only have I worked incredibly hard to reach the following that I have, I have also never used spam techniques or purchased fake followers. It's disheartening to see accounts that don't really work hard just skim through, buy followers and reach the big numbers when the rest of us are being shadowbanned. Please, Instagram, fix yourself.

Some tips - comment on new accounts. Four words minimum is considered engagement, so please don't keep it short and sweet. Change up your hashtags. Make sure your account isn't linked to any third party apps; such as unfollower apps. Let me know if you have any other tips.

Have you been shadowbanned? Tell me about the issues you have been experiencing with Instagram? The more we talk about it, the quicker the fix. The more we fight for it, the more it'll work for us.

And if you want to show me some love, head over to my Instagram!
