Sample Saturday Week 1

If you follow my blog regularly, then you will know I'm subscribed to pretty much every subscription box available in Australia - which means a lot of samples! Since I'm so bad at actually using them (as I feel guilty using products without reviewing them, and I feel stupid reviewing a small sample sized product - see the vicious cycle!) I decided to start a new segment on my blog called Sample Saturday. The idea came from my beautiful friend Melissa (check out her blog here!) who does this every now and then on Thursdays, with a few miniature reviews!

I'll be choosing five products each week and reviewing them all on Saturdays!

Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque

What I liked:
The sample size was extremely generous, and I have enough for a second application! The scent was lovely and neutral, and not at all too overbearing. Being a cream base, it sunk into my skin really nicely and didn't dry it out at all during the application process. Afterwards, it made my skin feel really soft and clean!

What I didn't:

I was a bit frightened when I looked at my face just before washing it off, and I was completely orange! I was scared that it might have stained my skin (as I left it on a little bit longer than suggested), but luckily there was no staining!

Would I repurchase?

For the full sized product, which is 75ml, it costs a whopping $66! This is generally for mature, or premature aging skin, which is not a problem that I have so I don't see the need in buying this as yet. Although I think I'd definitely consider giving it a go, even for the price, when my skin begins aging a little more. (Shouldn't be long with the stress I'm under...)

Palmolive Body Butter Exfoliating Body Wash in Strawberry Smoother
What I liked:

Well, I didn't think too much of this body wash. The only positives about this body wash that I can comment on are the price - it's definitely good if you're penny pinching, and the fact that it's actually body wash and can clean your skin. Not a lot going for it. The exfoliating beads were kind of nice?

What I didn't:

You will all probably hate me, but I didn't like the smell! At first, I thought it was ok, but when I actually used the product, I found the smell became a bit overbearing for my tastes. I also had a huge problem trying to get the product out of the bottle! Not sure if it was just because it was a sample size, but I really had to squeeze!

Would I repurchase?

I don't think so, unfortunately this one just wasn't for me.

Davroe Moisture Senses Argan Oil

What I liked:

The smell of this was really lovely! My hair was nice and shiny after using this! The oil easily absorbed into my hair as well, and didn't leave it feeling greasy or wet.

What I didn't:

The application. I was a bit sad that this was not a spray, but an actual oil that you need to run through your hair. At first my hair was weighed down slightly, but after brushing it through it was okay.

Would I repurchase?
Probably not. I'm a spray kind of girl, if I use oil in my hair at all. I think this would be best suited for those with dry hair.

Marc Jacobs Dot

What I liked:
The scent of this is crazy amazing! I love the clean, floral smell! I also found the staying power to be fairly good, with the scent lingering for some hours before needing to reapply.

What I didn't:

To be honest, nothing. I loved this completely.

Would I repurchase?

I have a lot of perfume, and my collection is constantly growing, so yes! I would repurchase!

Tresemme Split Remedy Shampoo, Conditioner & Leave In Treatment

What I liked:

I loved the way this made my hair feel! It really cleaned my hair well and didn't leave me with too dry or too oily hair! I was a bit concerned that due to my long hair, this kind of product & treatment might weigh my hair down, but after using this, my hair still retained a lot of volume which was great! The smell was also incredible! This claims to help split ends, but of course with one application I can't see a huge difference with that however.

What I didn't:

The only thing I didn't like was the fact that these were in sachets, as it made it hard to use the leave-in treatment. The back says 1-2 pumps of product should be enough, but the sachet had at least 2 applications! It's just a shame to see some of the product go to waste.

Would I repurchase?

Definitely! I'll be on the lookout for this range the next time I run out of shampoo!

--

So there you have it, my first Sample Saturday. It was a little bit of a struggle to force myself to use all of these products, but the knowledge of knowing I've photographing them all made the process a little easier! I was shocked to find that I really loved the Tresemme products, where I thought it wouldn't do anything for me, whereas I didn't like the Palmolive Body Wash at all, where I thought that would be something I would love! So watch out for next Saturday and another five mini-reviews!

Have you ever used any of these products before? If so, what did you think?

100 Day Spending Ban - Update 6

I've reached Day 86 of my 100 day spending ban! How exciting is this!? This will be my second last update ever on how I'm doing! I have to say though, I don't think I would have even made it this far if it was not for the support from you all, so a big thank you to everyone who helped me out and talked me out of buying!

This Fortnight's Temptations:

Parcel Forwarding Services
I put through a dummy request on PriceUSA to see what a quote would be for an order from Sephora, and it was so tough not sending through that deposit to make it real life! I picked out all the goodies I wanted, I filled out the form and I saw that final price, which was not as steep as I imagined!

Highpoint

If you live in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne then you'll know what I'm talking about! Highpoint, one of the largest shopping centers (aside from Chadstone) in my area has since opened a brand new floor of 80+ shops, most of which are fashion related! Think David Jones, Chanel and even a TopShop! I've been eying off TopShop goodies for so long now, and now that they are so close, I can't have them!

How I'm Resisting:

Fussy Pants

I have to say that since my spending ban started, I've grown far more fussy in what I actually want to buy! Things that were on my wishlist earlier have since disappeared from my mind, and I really don't care about them anymore! Even whilst putting through my dummy request on Sephora, I was so picky with what I actually wanted! "Do I really need this?" "Will I really use this?" were questions I asked myself the entire time, which I think is something fantastic I've learnt through this experience!

Salon Melbourne

The weekend after my spending ban end, I'm heading to Salon Melbourne! I managed to score a ticket, and I know a lot of wonderful brands will be there! I'm heading there with a few other blogger friends, so I know I'll want to spend up big! So, it's nice to know that this date falls after the spending ban ends, it gives me a shopping trip with the girls to look forward to!

--

So close, so very close! I'm thrilled I've made it this far, and I have to say I'm proud of myself! I wasn't sure if I'd actually make it, or if I'd trip up and end up buying things that were "on sale" like last time! I was able to resist sales and new product launches! I've also shopped my stash a little more, which is good, and have found some lovely products I've either never tried, or haven't used for ages!

Are you on a spending ban at the moment? How are you doing? If not, do you think you would consider a spending ban?

Circa Home Everyday Soap

I received the Circa Home Everyday Soap in the very first Her Fashion Box (which you can read about here) and fell in love with the packaging and design! Design is really important to me, because I feel that showering and cleaning ourselves should be relaxing, rather than being a chore, and there's nothing like a fancy bar of soap to make you feel pampered!

The design is just adorable!

This soap has made up of sweet almond oil and cocoa butter, which makes it smell extremely delicious! The soap is also really creamy and buttery on the skin, as opposed to lathering up a lot.

I found it to be really soft on my sensitive skin also, and left me with a really clean feeling! I did find the bar to be almost too big, and it's probably worth chopping it in half to get more usage!

I'm absolutely loving the design of this soap!

The Circa Home Everyday Soap left my skin feeling really clean and soft afterwards, and didn't dry my skin out at all. The scent was very strong in the box, but when applied in the shower, it was subtle enough, and didn't linger too long after my shower was completed.

--

Overall, I'm really pleased with this soap. I think I'll be buying more, as they're really great value!

This beautiful soap retails at $9.99 and can be purchased from David Jones, or check out the Circa Home Webpage for stockists here. Also available in other three other scents, including Vanilla & Cocoa Butter, Gardenia & Amber, and Narcissus & Patchouli.

Have you tried any of the Circa Home Everyday Soaps? If so, what did you think? Do you prefer a bar of soap, or a bottle of liquid soap?

Lancome Renergie Morpholift Nuit R.A.R.E Night Cream

Last October, I purchased the Pink Ribbon Mystery Hamper through Lust Have It! (you can read about it here), and the very lovely Lancome Renergie Morpholift Nuit R.A.R.E Night Cream was included! I was astounded by this, as the mystery box itself was a measly $49, whereas this night cream retails for at least double that! I've been using it on and off since then, and have been loving it.

The Lancome Renergie Morpholift Nuit R.A.R.E Night Cream is cased in an oh-so-sophisticated 50ml glass tub. I was a bit surprised that 50ml was worth such a hefty price-tag, but upon actually using the product, I realise that this tub will have a healthy and long life on my vanity!

Lancome claims that this night cream will leave you waking up with firmer and younger skin, signs of fatigue disappear and contours are better defined.

A little of this gorgeous peach coloured cream goes a long way, and you only need the tiniest amount to cover the face and neck area. The cream has the delightful scent of roses, which could be interpreted as "nana-like" however I actually really like it.

This amount is more than enough to cover my face and neck.

The cream is incredibly lightweight and non-greasy. The rose scent doesn't linger, which is fantastic for those of you who don't enjoy it! This night cream absorbs really quickly into the skin also, so I'm not going to bed with a creamy or greasy face.

After using this for a few months, I'm really pleased with the results. My skin is brighter and smoother, whilst also might tighter and more youthful looking. My skin does look extremely fresh and less fatigued in the morning, which ultimately leaves my face with a healthy glow

--

Ultimately, I'm immensely disappointed that this particular cream has been discontinued, as this is certainly something I would be buying again. I'll be interested to try Lancome's updated version of this cream when my tub runs out, and I'll be purchasing the eye cream to match.

The Lancome Renergie Morpholift Nuit R.A.R.E night cream is one of my absolute favourites, and it has changed my skin for the better! At first, I decided there would be no way I would repurchase this at such a steep pricetag, but after using this, I wouldn't even hesitate handing over my credit card for this beauty!

Have you tried this cream? If so, what did you think? Could you justify spending this kind of money on a night cream?

Illamasqua Speckled Nail Enamel

I mentioned earlier on my Twitter (which you can stalk here) and my Instagram (which you can stalk here) that I had new PR gifts to review, and I revealed in my earlier Illamasqua Powder Blusher review (which you can read here) that it was a few Illamasqua products! Aside from the blusher, I also received a very beautiful Speckled Nail Enamel from their I'mPerfection range! I was obviously very excited, as the Speckled range has had a lot of interest surrounding it's uniqueness!

The polish I received was "Scarce," a gorgeous pink speckled polish.

As you can see, the "speckled" effect is just black glitter, yet it is not sparkly, which gives it a truly unique finish!

Swatchy, swatchy!

One layer, no top coat

With just one coat, the effect is very beautiful. It gives a more natural look, especially with the pink. But, I couldn't resist taking Illamasqua's advice and adding another layer for intensity.

Two layers, no top coat

As you can see, two coats certainly bring the effect out in full force, and it looks amazing! I'm really happy with the way it turned out!

--

The quality of the polishes is also amazing. I've had the polish on since Monday, and since have had only minor wearing around the edges, no major chipping whatsoever! Also, the colour is so close to my skin that even though there is minor wearing, you cannot see it at all!

I'm very impressed with these polishes, and will definitely be heading to my local Illamasqua store to buy the other colours - that is as soon as my spending ban is over! The Speckled range has a really nice selection of colours also, including Freckle (neutral), Mottle (green), Fragile (blue), and Speckle (purple).

Check out the Illamasqua page (here) for amazing swatches of all the colours!

You can buy these babies from Myer here, for only $22.50!
(On the Illamasqua website, they cost £14.50, which roughly exchanges to about $21.15AU, so we're certainly not paying more than we have to!)

Have you tried the Illamasqua Speckled Polishes yet? If so, how did you find them?

March Lust Have It!

I feel like all I'm posting about this month is monthly subscription boxes, so don't worry - this is the last one! (I hope!) The March Lust Have It made it's way to my doorstep in the last few days, and I was very excited because we are back to the cute boxes! I love the new design, and it's great to give us all something that most of us will reuse in the future! I know I will be!

The contents of this month's box looks promising!

The Natural Source Camouflage Colour Skin Crayons

We received a nail polish from this brand last month, and some people were less than impressed. I'm more impressed with the "skin crayons" they included this month. The idea of these crayons is that they can be used anywhere on the face - so think eyeliner or lipliner! Pretty innovative! I was a bit sad that I got green and black, which are pretty boring, but it gives me an idea of how good they are - I may buy more!

Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray

I really like the idea of receiving this! I haven't tried many other finishing sprays, aside from the Australis Finishing Spritz. I haven't heard of the brand before, but this handy little bottle will be perfect to throw in the handbag for work, especially if you're going out afterwards, you can spritz up again!

De Lorenzo Essential Treatments Equilibrium

I'm always happy to receive treatments! This is a deep repair treatment, which is something I've actually been wanting to try for a little while, so I'm so happy to get this - and happy it's not in a sachet! Thank you, De Lorenzo for not making your samples in sachets!

Ocean Essence Gold Eye Cream

I'm thrilled to receive this! I tried out the Ocean Essence mask in a previous box. I remember other people got this in place of the face mask, and I was a little disappointed I didn't get this amazing gold eye cream! I'm really thrilled to give this a go, because I was very impressed with the face mask, and I've been on the search for a new eye cream!

Bio Elixia Body Shaper Cellulite Contour Creme

Wow, a full size product that's worth about $60! This is what I like to see, Lust Have It! I'm going to get use out of it, because I do have cellulite concerns, so I'm happy to give this a go.

Lollypop

How cute, a lovely little heart addition to this box! I'm not sure if this was perhaps overflow from last month's box, in honour of Valentine's Day, but either way I'm happy! I love getting little extras in this box like this, it makes me feel a little more special!

Kerastase Paris Nectar Thermique

This was the missing product from last month! I'm a bit disappointed it's in a sachet, but what can you do! I'll be happy to give this a go, as always! I'm a bit surprised they weren't able to fit a little sachet into last's month box, considering all the other products that were included were a bit bulky!

Freebies
1. Buy One Get One Free Ticket to "Warm Bodies"
2. Free Month To Dollar Shave Club
3. $15 Voucher for the Iconic
4. 25% Off Next Purchase at Elixia.com

Always happy to get fun cards with deals on them. Majority of the time I won't use any of the deals, although the Shave Club deal looks intriguing!

--

All in all, I'm fairly happy with this month's box. Last month, I actually changed my date of birth with them in hopes to get the "better box" and was actually delighted to find that Kat (see her post here) and I got the same box for once - usually I'm lusting after hers like crazy! I'm looking forward to next month's box!

What did you think of this month's Lust Have It?

March Bellabox

The last few months of Bellabox have been shaky to put it lightly, and I've been promising myself every month that I'm going to unsubscribe! I just keep forgetting. Needless to say, this month I did not have high hopes...

This month's theme was "Delicious Beauty" which could mean absolutely anything, as majority of the time the themes mean next to nothing with Bellabox.

The contents of this month's box.

DB Australia Lipliner in Nude

I'm actually pleased with this, as I'm always happy to receive a full sized product, especially makeup. DB is a fairly good brand, and although it's cheap, I'm not a makeup snob so this will definitely get used!

Yes To Carrots C Me Shine Lip Gloss in "Playful Nude"

I was a bit disappointed that I didn't receive the Clinique lipstick in place of this. Although I don't have a problem with receiving a Yes To Carrots product, I feel they are not really in the same league. Yes To Carrots can be purchased from Priceline, where as Clinique is something you pick up from Myer. Get what I'm saying?

Swisse Recover Bar

This is a nice touch however will not be used by me. I don't do any intense workouts, I much prefer softer workouts like yoga, so this wouldn't be too helpful for me. This will be gifted to my boyfriend, who does a lot more intense exercise, so hopefully he'll get good use out of it! I don't know how good it would do me after a soft workout when I wouldn't drink as much water.

Olive Shower Gel

I actually heard about this brand recently, and it sounded very interesting! Oil, when used correctly, can be fantastic for the skin. A shower gel is always welcome in my collection, so I'll be interested to see how this one goes!

Ocean Essence Body Milk

I had received an Ocean Essence face mask in a previous box, and was actually very impressed. I'm interested to see how this goes, and although the sample size is small for something that is supposed to cover your entire body, I'm happy it was not in a sachet!

Guerlain Paris La Petite Robe Noire EDT sample

I'm actually really happy to get this as a sample, as I know this is one of the new lovely scents that have been released. It smells really lovely, so this will definitely be used.

--

Overall, I'm not unhappy with this month's box. Granted, it's not amazing and did not have me saying "wow" as I've seen a few other boxes that had goodies I wish I had received, but all in all I feel I didn't get the worst box available either, for once. I'm still considering unsubscribing, although I'm willing to give them another month... again.

Have you received this month's Bellabox? If so, what did you think?

Illamasqua Powder Blusher

Today, I want to show you my newest obsession! I mentioned in my last Spending Ban Update (which you can read here) that I had been gifted some lovely goodies to review which made me really excited - and the Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Hussy is one of them!

I much prefer powder blushers over cream blushes, so I was extremely delighted by this choice!

The first thing you notice when you buy anything from Illamasqua is the amazing packaging! This chic and sleek black squared case is perfect to throw in the handbag or keep on your vanity, with a lovely viewing window to make finding your preferred colour a lot easier!

As you can see, Hussy is a shocking pink colour with a lovely matte finish. I love how bright this colour is, yet can also be so wearable at the same time, depending on how you apply it!

As you can see, it's extremely easy to pick up the product, and the colour is very pigmented! Use a light touch to achieve the perfect day to day flush on your cheeks, or a heavy hand to create bold, candy coloured cheeks!

I love how easy this product is to use, and it's quality is obvious. The colour is pigmented and very long lasting, one of the rare blushes I have that will last all day long without the need to reapply. It will even continue to show up over a reapplication of translucent powder, which usually makes any other of my blushes disappear!

1. Not blended
2. Blended

As you can see, the colour can be very bright if not blended. I have blended it to my liking in the second swatch, so you can see how wearable the shade can be.

Blending Hussy was an absolute breeze, unlike some other blushes I have tested and tried in the past! I really like blending this colour, but also wearing it heavy handed, to give my face a pop of colour!

Face Swatch!

As you can see, it can be blended in really nicely to make a very safe for work look!

--

Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this blusher! As a long term admirer of Illamasqua, I have to say I regret not trying their products sooner. I will most certainly be heading out to buy more of these in different colours, as the range is very diverse!

At only $28AU (compared to £18, which is roughly about $26AU) we are not paying a lot more than internationally, so this is definitely worth testing out next time you are at an Illamasqua counter! (or if you're feeling daring, buy online here or here!)

Have you tried this blusher before? If so, what did you think?

This product was kindly provided for my consideration.
