Lush Bloggers Event

LUSH4

Last Tuesday, I was delighted to attend the very first Lush bloggers event in Melbourne! I'm a huge fan of Lush products already, so I was so excited to head into the store and learn more about their beautiful products!

So before I talk about the event, enjoy some lovely photography of just some of their products that we learnt about!

We learnt all about Lush's amazing contributions to farmers and companies, to help keep them organic and natural! It was also exciting to hear that Lush won the 2013 Australian Business Award for Environmental Sustainability, which basically recognises their commitment to the environment!

We also learnt that rather than making one huge donation to a company, Lush makes a lot of smaller donations to smaller farmers, to help keep them ethical and organic, which in the long run helps our environment a bit better!

LUSH9

We also learnt how the Angels On Bare Skin cleanser was actually made, and it was surprisingly easy and quick! (It was also nice to see that all the ingredients were natural!) Here we're watching Nalini from The Made Up Maiden roll up the finished product!

LUSH3

The finished product! We all got to take a bit of Angels On Bare Skin home, so I can't wait to start using it!

LUSH10

A few bloggers also had their colour readings done using the Emotional Brilliance Colour Wheel! It was really fun (mostly due to the dry ice!) and was really exciting to see just how many colours Lush has!

LUSH11

I was also super impressed to hear that the catering for the event was taken care of by the Asylum Seeker Resource Center. The ASRC trains up asylum seekers to be chefs and create gorgeous ethnic foods for events such as this, providing them with job opportunities!

The above yummies are called Akaree, which are black eyed bean fritters with onion, chilli and ginger, fried, and served with a red capsicum and peanut sauce. This is a common snack from Africa!

LUSH12

Gyoza, Chinese steamed wontons filled with mushrooms, cabbage, spring onion, and ginger. Gyoza is generally fried on one side, and this particular dish was served with sweet chilli sauce!

LUSH13

African Empanadas are fried pocket pastries with red beans, corn, and smoked chilli. This yummies were served with tomatillo and coriander dipping sauce!

LUSH14

My favourite of the bunch, Baklavas from the Ottomans! (Generally found in Lebanese sweet stores!) Baklavas are sweet pastries filled with walnuts, almonds, cinnamon and sugar. So, you can see why they were my favourite!

LUSH15

Pandan and Coconut Rice Cakes had a few of us wondering whether or not they were some new soaps released by Lush, based on the bright green colouring! Although I was a little hesitant to try these, they promised to be sweet, and were indeed once I tried them! Very yummy!

LUSH16

Of course with our exotic nibbles we had to have wine (and juice for those of us who weren't drinking!) so all in all I was really impressed! The food was amazing, especially considering where it came from and that a whopping 85% of the ingredients used were local and committed to being ethical!

LUSH-11

And of course, the gorgeous ladies at Lush didn't let us leave empty handed! Not only did we get an amazing goody bag filled with some of their favourites, we also had the chance to pick three products ourselves and take them home with us! Needless to say, I could have stayed all night to pick as I just wanted to try out everything!

LUSH-12

The inside of the goody bag contained:

Sex Bomb Bath Ballistic
Dream Cream
Bubblegum Lip Scrub
Ultrabland Cleanser
Angels On Bare Skin Cleanser
Ro's Argan Body Conditioner
Honey I Washed The Kids soap

And I chose:

Dream Wash
Cupcake Face Mask
Emotional Brilliance Lip Colour in Bubbly

Expect some reviews on some of these products shortly, as I have been using a few of them since and have been really impressed!
I also want to say a huge thank you to Lush, and all the lovely Lush ladies that made it possible! Everybody there was so approachable and easy to talk to, and there was so much to do and see, so the event was a huge success! I've always been a big fan of Lush, but I never knew they were so devoted to the environment, and to so many different causes such as asylum seekers, animal cruelty and gay rights! It definitely makes me want to use Lush more, and choose their products over others!
