Hakuhodo Brushes
I made the mistake of hitting this stand first, and decided to come back later. Of course when I came back, most of what I wanted was sold out, and it was extremely busy, which means I missed out entirely. I'm not too worried however, as at the end of the year I'll be heading to Japan; and there are a few places in Tokyo where I'd be able to pick these up so as not to have to pay for shipping!
Hakuhodo Brushes
These brushes were amazingly soft, but more on the expensive side. I'd still love to own some, someday!
Bdellium Tools
These brushes have been on my radar for some time, mostly because of how adorable they are. I know that you can get them fairly cheap online, but it was great not having to pay for shipping. I ended up picking up a few of these brushes in the pink, just to see how they fare.
LA Splash
I really enjoyed the LA Splash display at Salon Melbourne, and was delighted to see them at IMATS. My sister and I walked away with mineral blushes, but sadly I missed out on the glitters! (Something about having to ship them back to Melbourne in my suitcase - the idea of glitter everywhere - stopped me.)
Girlee Cosmetics
Girlee Cosmetics was another brand I saw at Salon Melbourne and really liked the look of. My sister ended up getting a custom palette and really loved it, I ended up with a few bits and pieces from here also! The people here were really friendly, and the stand was far less busy than MAC, Inglot or Lime Crime which are far easier to get hold of online than Girlee Cosmetics are, so I was pleased!
Ben Nye at Scotty's Makeup
I was most excited to try out Ben Nye, as this is not a brand I'd seen before in Australia! I was really disappointed that Scotty's Makeup had Sugarpill, but it was not on display for us to try. I ended up buying some anyway, to test out before I buy direct from the website.
I got tapped on the shoulder while shopping by the ever lovely Kat from Kitsch Snitch! We'd met just two weeks before at the Lush event in Melbourne (see my post on that event here) and so it was really nice to see a friendly (and beautiful) face whilst in Sydney! Lucky thing she is ended up with more than me, as she obviously had more patience when it came to the lines!
I also finally got to meet the absolutely gorgeous Abigail from Shrinking Wallet! She noticed me first, so it was a big surprise! The first thing I noticed about Abby was her amazing smooth skin - look at it - it's perfect! She's such a gorgeous girl, and although we ended up parting ways so we could do our shopping, I'm glad I got to catch her before I left!
My sister and I after our shop! My mum did come into IMATS but didn't have the stomach for the long lines, so she ended up popping herself in front of the stage and watching all the displays! She learnt a fair few things, so she says, so I'm happy to enjoyed herself!
--
All in all it was a lovely day, although I wasn't overly impressed. Salon Melbourne had a lot more variety (including nail polish - no nail polish brands at all this year at IMATS!) and was also free to get in to. IMATS seemed to be filled with a lot of pushy girls who were just there for a bargain (aren't we all, though) and had no respect for their fellow beauty lovers! There were also a fair number of family members who obviously attended because their son or daughter couldn't, and had no idea what they were doing. These people were usually the ones at the front of the line complaining for long lengths at a time as to why they weren't served before the girl who just got there. It was so time consuming and exhausting!
I'm not sure that I would attend IMATS again, as it was a lot of money to have a disappointing time. Depending on what exhibitors are there next year, I would consider it. I would definitely recommend an industry only event before IMATS though!
And don't worry! I haven't forgotten about my haul... I will post that shortly for you all!
Did you attend IMATS this year? If so, what did you think? Were you a little underwhelmed?
I have never been to IMATS show. I've heard people rave about going though. Nice pictures. ^_^
ReplyDeleteI know the ones overseas are far better, by the looks of them! But thank you! xx
DeleteLooking gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to IMATS but I don't think I'll be going considering the entry price and how crazy/disappointing it can get.
Great photos you got up! :)
Thanks Melissa!
DeleteI heard it was far better last year, so here's hoping it's better again next year! But it can get really crazy!
And thank you! xx
Wow! Everything looks so...WOW! I don't even know how to describe it! Love your blog, super adorable! I followed you blog and if you would like to please follow mine :)

Haha, it was pretty intense. And thanks hun. I'll definitely take a look xx
DeleteSorry I never replied to your instagram comment, took me a while to understand what you meant haha. Yeah I was a bit annoyed to have spent so much money for such a 'meh' experience but I went mainly to interview some artists for a design project. Shame I didn't get to see you Jasmine, you looked beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYeah I was annoyed seeing 10 year olds buying stuff with daddy's money like brushes to "learn how to contour". I know that could sound harsh but something about girls growing up too fast bugs me (and a lot of other people too)
Ah that's okay Sandy! That's good that you at least got interviews and stuff, makes it more worthwhile! And thank you - I wish I'd seen you too!
DeleteAnd yes, I found that annoying too! That's why I prefer industry only events, because the people there know what they want and they aren't just rushing in to get a bargain, or are kids buying expensive brushes! It does bug me a bit, it's pretty sad that their parents let it happen though!
Aww I missed you! D: I missed seeing alot of youtubers and bloggers :(
ReplyDeleteI picked up some of the pink bdellium face brushes and theyre so soft! The eye brushes didn't seem that nice to me though. You looked super pretty! Hopefully I get to meet you next year :)
I missed heaps of bloggers too, don't worry! I picked up a few of the eye ones, as I liked them, but each to their own! The face ones were amazing though!
DeleteAnd aww thank you! Hopefully next year! xx
Looks like you had a great time! Lovely pictures :) I'd love to go one day. :3

Thanks Kate, it was a pretty good day! xx
DeleteWow it sounds like you had fun :) just wanted to say too that you hair is amazing!
ReplyDeleteAw thanks Mishelle! It's getting a bit long haha! It was a fun day though! xx
DeleteGreat photos lovely! It's unfortunate that this years IMATS event wasn't as good as previous years. Looking forward to seeing your haul! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you lovely! It is a bit of a shame, but it was definitely an experience! :)
Deletexx
I was kinda disappointed that I didn't get to go to IMATs, but by the sounds of it I wouldn't want to.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if they had something like that over here in Perth. Or for me to be invited to an "industry only" event. One can dream lol.
It wasn't amazing, sadly! It would be great if Perth got some events - it seems to be pretty dead over there, sadly! Hopefully you get something soon :)
DeleteLooking forward to seeing the haul! found it adorable that you met up with other beauty bloggers its such a supportive community! :)
ReplyDeleteIt'll be up soon! And thank you! It's a really lovely community, I've met some really wonderful friends! xx
DeleteSuch a shame you found it a bit disappointing. Hopefully you will enjoy your purchases, and thanks for the photos!
ReplyDeletex
It was a shame, but I definitely don't regret going! I'm happy for the experience! And thank you! I definitely will enjoy them haha ;)

Unfortunately I didn't get to go to IMATS this year. The brushes and cosmetics look amazing but I don't think I'll have the patience to buy something. So I'm kind of glad that I didn't go maybe next year. Can't wait for the haul post.
ReplyDeleteAw what a shame! Patience was really hard, and I didn't have a lot of it that day haha! xx
DeleteGreat post! <3
ReplyDeleteThanks lovely xx
DeleteMy skin is FAR from perfect, but thank you! I've been getting a whole heap of pimples lately. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous you're going to Japan!
Are you going to be doing a review of the Sugarpill stuff you purchased?
Awww no! My camera must be kind then (and my eyes!) because it looks fab!
DeleteAnd you should be ;) haha! And yes I definitely will! I'm loving it! xx
What a shame you missed out on the brushes but I'm sure you'll make up for it in Japan!
ReplyDeleteI know, boo! I'm sure they'll probably *more like hopefully* be cheaper in Japan! :D
DeleteI wanted to go to IMATS but I was too busy with work, that weekend was just crazy. At least you had good weather in Sydney and I hope you had a good time with your family. I never understand why people who have no interest in it are dragged to beauty events because they often bring a negative energy to it...
ReplyDeleteI am so excited about your Japan trip, and a little jealous:) xx
Aw what a shame! It was definitely lovely weather, we were so lucky! And yes I totally agree! I understand why people want somebody to come with them, but they ruin the experience for so many other people!
DeleteAnd aww don't be jealous, I might have a sneaky giveaway full of Japan goodies when I come back ;)
xx
Aww, this looked like so much fun :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to go to IMATS one day and meet up with some amazing bloggers since I love the work you put into it, and all the make-up/make-up accessories up from browsing makes it my kinda place! Will try for next year :)
Yay, I hope you do end up making it to IMATS next year! xx
DeleteUnfortunately I didn't get to attend, but the Hakuhodo brushes look absolutely amazing. Sounds like they're priced like the Rolls Royce of brushes...
