Ace Your Base: Rimmel London Stay Matte

Rimmel London, Rimmel London Stay Matte

Rimmel London is one of my all time favourite brands. It was one of the first brands I tried when I was a teenager, and ever since I've had a bit of a love affair with them. The Stay Matte Pressed Powder has to be one of the best products I have tried, and was the inspiration for this blog post.

Acing your base has never been easier. With four excellent face products, it's super easy to create the flawless look you've been dreaming of.

Step One: Stay Matte Primer

When the Stay Matte Primer was released, I was beyond excited. I've always been a huge fan of the powder, so I just figured anything within the same family would automatically be amazing. I picked this up right after release, and admittedly, forgot about it almost as quickly. I've recently been reaching for it again and have fallen in love. Rimmel London describes this as an ultra lightweight formula that can be worn with makeup, or without, for a matte, silky base. I tend to agree with all of that. The only downside to this product is that it tends to make dry patches even dryer, so ensure you are applying moisturiser before this primer. If you have oily or combination skin, like me, this primer is a gift from the God's and will help keep any oil at bay for the entire day.

Step Two: Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation

I was equally as excited for this foundation as I was for the primer, and I snapped this one up very quickly. This one comes in only eight shades, so I picked up Fair Ivory which seems to work well enough for my pale skin. Rimmel London describes this foundation to be feather light; something I'm not sure everyone would agree upon. This particular foundation is full coverage, no doubt about it, but if you apply too make you can get a bit of a cake-face. In saying that, if you use the correct amount, it can feel lightweight on the skin and blends like a dream. (Seriously, less is more with this one - use too much and you won't be able to blend.) This finishes you off matte, and helps control oil and shine for the entire day. Even though this is a drugstore foundation, this is one I now use for days when I want to look particularly amazing.

Step Three: Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder
Ah, my favourite product of all time. When I first started using makeup, it became clear that I had combination skin, and something needed to be done about my oil production. That was when I discovered the Stay Matte Pressed Powder; and it's been a staple in my collection ever since. I opt for the translucent shade, as I'm far too pale for any of the other shades, and find it does wonders for me. This mattefies (is that a word?) pretty much any foundation with ease, and helps keep my oil at bay. I have about three of these floating around, as they are great for makeup touch ups and make all the difference to an oily face on a hot day.

The Alternative: BB Cream Matte*

I love a full coverage face; but that's just me. I feel like I have a lot of impurities to hide, so when I first received this BB cream to trial, I was skeptical. So skeptical that I didn't actual bother to trial it for months, convinced that the colour would be too dark, or that it would be far too oily for me. Boy, was I wrong. I'm wishing I'd tried this baby months ago. The BB cream is an alternative to your foundation. This BB cream is incredibly lightweight, and is so easy to apply. I can either apply with my fingers, or with a BB cream blush, and find that the application is flawless. My skin looks stunning in this BB cream, and my impurities are hidden. This is a full coverage BB cream. I also resist using this every day in an effort to save the tube, and use it for days when it's incredibly hot (as it stays on the skin a lot easier than foundation does, and also because it contains SPF15) or days when I am in a rush and need to apply something quick. I was still concerned about oil production though, but I was impressed that this had a full matte finish and helped contain my oil throughout the day. Perfection!

As you've probably gathered by now, I'm a pretty big fan of the Rimmel London Stay Matte range, as well as their new BB cream. I have to say, being a drugstore brand, I am thoroughly impressed with the quality and price of all four products. They are easy to apply, have great finishes and work for pretty much everyone. I would recommend these to pretty much everyone I know!

Have you tried the Rimmel London Stay Matte range? If so, what are your thoughts? Which drugstore base range gives you a flawless finish?
